Hello little children, your uncle shows you today, how it works with our subtitles. Subtitles are text lines, which are shown in a movie or a series so you can understand, what the actors are saying. But how does it work?

1.) The Player

Basically we suggest you to use “Media Player Classic”, but this one has nothing to do with the Windows Media Player.

But you can also use another player. It’s your choice.

2.) The Codec

If we want to see something at all, we need a videocodec that fits.

Usually it’s the XviD-Codec.

(Do not forget to install it after you downloaded it )

So now we can watch all of our exciting series with our player.

Of course there are series that need another codec, like the H264 codec, but this is another story.

Okay, now we got a picture, but we don’t understand anything, ‘cause the guy talks some gibberish and where are the text lines (subtitles) at all?

3.) VobSub

To see the subtitles you need a special tool. This tool works with all common players.

After we installed the player, the codec and VobSub, we're able to start. Now we need a subtitle.

Of course you find the best English and german subtitles onSubCentral so you don’t have to look on other pages.

4.) Name the video and the subtitle identical

After we got the video and the subtitle, we have to name the video and the subtitle identically (of course in the same folder) so the smart VobSub knows: :

"Hey, there is a subtitle that belongs to this video, maybe I should show it, too.".

Example:
The.Shield.S04E02.subcentral.avi
The.Shield.S04E02.subcentral.srt

Look on the picture on the left side

5.) Watch the video including the subtitle

Now we just start the video file and abracadabra we got text in the video:
